Frequently Asked Questions

Ground & Connect - Therapeutic Yoga and Speech Pathology program

  • The group is going to be run at the Common Room (Indoor and outdoor) space at Milligan House- 35 Milligan Street, Carey Park, Bunbury.

  • Please ensure your child is dressed appropriately for the outdoor weather conditions, with sun protection, for warmer days, and appropriate wet weather gear for cooler days.

There is a verandah area for undercover play, however a change of clothes for your child may also be appropriate should they choose to engage in messy play during the session. Toilets and changing facilities are available for use before, during and after the session.

  • Parents are asked to wear comfortable clothing suitable to participate in basic movement practices, please also bring layers in case it gets cool during the relaxation parts of the session.

  • Yoga offered therapeutically, can support parents to regulate your own nervous system so communication with your child can come from a calm, grounded place rather than stress or urgency.

Through simple breathing, gentle movement and grounding practices, you will learn how to reconnect to your own inner calm, how to ground and stay centred in the moment even when your toddler is overwhelmed or struggling to communicate.

With your nervous system feeling more regulated, it becomes easier to stay present, listen and respond with patience, supporting both connection and healthy communication with your child.

  • Yoga therapy is a therapeutic, evidence informed approach that uses simple yoga practices to support long term health and wellbeing.

In this group, yoga therapy focuses on helping parents regulate stress through gentle movement, breathing and grounding practices so you can feel more calm and present with your child.

Rather than focusing on poses or fitness, the intention is to build small, practical skills that support nervous system regulation, connection and more responsive communication with your toddler.

  • Not at all. The yoga practices in this group are very simple, therapeutic and designed specifically for parents with toddlers. Most practices are done seated on a mat and are short enough to fit into real life with a young child.

The focus isn’t on poses or flexibility, it’s about learning practical ways to support calm body and mind.

  • No, everything you need is provided.

  • Not at all. One of the primary focuses of this group is to support the development of language skills, through connection and play.

There will be a range of communication supports offered, including the use of visuals to support language use and understanding, during play.

  • It is just how it sounds. The child is in control of what they play with, how they play with it and who they choose to play with. We will offer opportunities to engage in different types of play, but it is up to your child what they choose to do. We will embed all the concepts we intend to teach into their play!

  • This is absolutely fine. Your child is welcome to stay indoors with you until they feel comfortable. If they remain with you for the whole session, they will still benefit from the calm, relaxed, atmosphere Kerry will create indoors.

There will still be an opportunity to join the fun activities together for the second part of the session, with the safety of you by their side!

  • Please contact Bree (embody.communication.sp@gmail.com) for further information should you wish to pay for this group using a Self, or Plan Managed NDIS funding plan.
