Stop Forcing the Pose: The Power of Functional Yoga
You might have seen the term functional yoga and thought ‘Oh here we go some other random style or blend of yoga that nobody knows about!’
Or maybe something about the term ‘functional yoga’ interests you and sparks your curiousity! 🤔
Yes, the term Functional yoga is being thrown about a bit more lately and I think for good reason. Functional Yoga approaches yoga with real humans and real life at it’s centre, it meets you where you are at and asks you gently to stop forcing the pose, shape, breath or experience.
Collectively holding our breath - when did we decide this was acceptable?
Lately, I’ve been noticing how many people are quietly holding their breath, diligently adhering to the pace of the world around us, a continuous roller coaster where we are always just a little on edge that something might snap.
And this my friend is exhausting… so many of us go through our days feeling wired but tired, exhausted and burnt out.
Was this all a big mistake? Finding clarity in the chaos with your yoga practice
Was this all a BIG mistake?
This was the question I asked myself not even 24hours after landing in Sri Lanka, a place I had dreamed of coming for many many years, a place I felt drawn to, a place I had convinced my husband to come for his long service leave…setting off full of hope and joy, ready for the challenge and the learnings, excited to embark on a yoga teaching gig in another country for a whole month.
And yet, less than 24 hours after landing in Sri Lanka, (on my birthday) here I was in the middle of Colombo thinking ‘oh sh;+! What have I done? I think I want to leave! This is a BIG mistake!
Are you in a rut? Redefine your definition of success and rediscover joy
Fact: Adulting is fun when you are a young fresh adult with so many possibilities on the horizon, oh the things you could achieve, the heights of success you could reach, so many things you could do!
Fact: Adulting after you’ve been at it for a while (lets say 40+) is hard and can feel stressful, uninspiring and like you are stuck in a rut!
When we are feeling stuck in a rut we might consider what needs to change to unstick ourselves….what else can we ‘do’ at work or in our life to improve our value, to demonstrate our worth. To prove my success to myself and maybe others…what more can I possibly DO!?

Why setting a one word intention is more fabulous than new years resolutions
Each new year I set an intention, a theme really, usually distilled to one word, this year I found it tricky to arrive at just a single word until a little encounter with a sugar fairy on new years eve…
