Sleep…
That beautiful sometimes elusive thing we all know we need, yet loads of us struggle to get!
I love sleep, I never used to…I had FOMO as a kid and as a mum of four, sleeping meant that a disaster would surely unfold at the exact moment I drifted off - must have AT LEAST one eye and one ear open at ALL times!
Argh I’m exhausted just thinking about that now!
Sleep is now my favourite 💕🤍💕
Favourite way to restore,
Favourite way to heal,
Favourite way to be kind to myself,
And best of all…dreams are so good…if someone could figure out how to film dreams, please let me know because mine would make epic movies🍿
Sleep can still elude me at times, and if you are struggling to snooze, here are 3 tips that will help set you up for a fabulous sleep…and maybe some epic dreams!
Three tips for better sleep
ONE
Deep and slow Breathing: Practice breathing deeply, but be sure to focus on slowing down the exhale…this slower exhale helps activate the parasympathetic (rest and digest) nervous system and signals to your body that it’s safe to rest.
TWO
Gentle Yoga Stretches: Yes you can practice yoga asana (poses) right before bed. Adding a few gentle poses before bed can ease muscle tension, and help to down regulate an overactive mind. My favourite sleep prep poses are bringing knees to chest and adding a little movement, gentle twists whilst sitting or laying down and my number 1️⃣ Legs up the wall
THREE
Yoga Nidra Meditation: Any type of meditation can be beneficial and a yoga nidra (nidra means sleep) is next level excellent for helping you to dose off peacefully. This is my go to for helping me to switch off a noisy mind quickly and get to sleep with ease. My source for fabulous and free yoga nidra practices is insight timer - there are loads of fab teachers including yours truly offering free practices for sleep 🩶
